Mr.Spotswood'slaw practice has focused on escheat matters for more thantwenty years.His introduction to unclaimed property began whilerepresenting theTreasurer of Virginia from 1983 to 1987. During thattime, he advisedthe Treasurer on numerous disputed audits andVirginia's adoption of the1981 Uniform Unclaimed Property Act.
SubsequentlyMr.Spotswood represented the forensic accounting firm of Andreoli,Johanson& Wood in its efforts to recover funds on behalf of thestates. Thisrequired a close working relationship with the variousstateadministrators, auditors and counsel.
CurrentlyspotswoodLAWrepresents holders of unclaimed property. Thisrepresentation includesstrategic counsel as well as preparation forand defense of an audit.
Mr.Spotswood is the co-author ofUnclaimed Property Laws, Compliance andEnforcement published by CCH,Inc. His articles have appeared innumerous accounting and legalperiodicals. He is a frequent speaker atconferences sponsored byNAUPA, UPPO, CheckFree and Chesapeake SystemSolutions.
Mr.Spotswood received his bachelor's degree andmaster's degree from theUniversity of Virginia and his Juris Doctoratefrom the T.C. WilliamsSchool of Law at the University of Richmond. Hewas admitted topractice in 1976.
